Soft starter for AC induction motors instead of magnetic contactor
The inrush current with Soft Starter is significantly less than starting with a direct or worse star / delta. Limit the absorption at this stage is to reduce stress on the machine and electrical and mechanical installation, resulting in lower maintenance activities.
It depend on your load characteristic for example you can use soft starter for centrifugal pumps, fan...where Moment (N.m) directly proportional to speed (rpm). Soft starter will reduce your start up current by reduce stator voltage when start up motor. Typically, it start with 60% nominal voltage. So it should not use for flit, lathe...which need more/most moment when start-up.
I would recommend VFD (Visit our another website). Soft start will work for you but VFD is simply better if you can afford this within your project budget. I’ve seen many applications where initial design used soft start and later on soft starts were replaced with VFDs.
